About the trip:
Dagestan or Country of Mountains is one of the most colorful and peculiar regions of South Russia, closely tied with the history of conquering of Caucasus. Warm Caspian Sea and breathtaking mountain landscapes, serpentine roads and small villages which look like glued to the rocks in the highlands, deep canyons and picturesque mountain rivers - You will see all this without sacrificing your comfort. The entire period of the trip we stay in the most modern and comfortable seaside hotel in the town of Caspiysk. The program of the tour has 3 full days of intensive touring with lunch and 3 full days of rest. We travel in a small company of friends with modern minibus. You will not be tired to explore and learn!

DaY One Saturday: Welcome to Dagestan!

We recommend to plan your flight to Makhachkala to arrive before 16:00. Meet & greet at the airport. Panoramic tour of Makhachkala - capital of Dagestan. Dinner at your own cost in the "Scarlet Sails" restaurant. Transfer to the town of Kaspiysk, check-in at Azimut Park Hotel 4*. The hotel is located on the sea shore and has its own beach and heated swimming pool.

Day Two Sunday: Chirkey, Sulak and Sarykum.

Transfer to Chirkey water reservoire, formed after construction of hydroelectric power station on Sulak river. Fast boat trip along the reservoire will give you a lot of emotions - mountains, air and water! On the other side of the dyke starts Canyon of Sulak. The canyon is 53 km long and 1920 metres deep. It is deeper than the Grand Canyon in the USA! Lunch at the trout farm restaurant on the river. Our next goal is the the biggest dune of Eurasia - Sarykum. This is a real desert in the country of mountains with unique flora and fauna. Return to hotel by 9pm.

Day Three Monday: Day at leaisure

The Azimut hotel is located on the shore of the Caspian Sea and has a wide beach. It is a perfect place for strolls or jogging along the sea. Alternatively you can rest beside the heated swimming pool. The capital is only a short drive by taxi. Taxi is safe and cheap.

Day Four Tuesday: Trip to plateau Gunib

Prepare for the most picturesque 3-hour route along the mountain serpentine road with a stop at Irganay water reservoire and observation platform overviewing "aul" Gunib, the last residence of Shamil. It was the place where Russian army captured legendary Shamil who headed tribes of highlanders during Russo-Caucasian war. The war lasted 78 years. Taste Avar cuisine in cafe Adat. After lunch we tour the fortress of Gunib, visit the Arch of Shamil. We continue to see the unique underground waterfall near village Salty. Return to hotel by 9pm.

Day Five Wednesday: Day at leaisure

The Azimut hotel is located on the shore of the Caspian Sea and has a wide beach. It is a perfect place for strolls or jogging along the sea. Alternatively you can rest beside the heated swimming pool. The capital is only a short drive by taxi. Taxi is safe and cheap.

Day Six Thursday: Derbent and fortress "Naryn Kala".

Travel to Derbent (103 km) along the shore of the sea. Derbent is one of the oldest towns in Dagestan. We will stroll down the athmospheric streets of the old town - Magala, and observe the oldest mosk "Djami" dated back to the VIII century. Then we will tour the old citadel "Narym Kala" considered to be a monument of history and architecture of Central Asia and Caucasus. On the shore of the sea we will see and make pictures of another unique artefact of the Soviet aircraft construction science - Screenplane "Lunj". This giant was meant to become a killer of aircraft carriers and was called "The Caspian Monster". After lunch at national house we visit Derbent cognac plant or Gedzhuvan wine brewery for tour and tasting. Return to hotel by 9pm.

Day Seven Friday: Day at leisure

Another day for rest. We recommend visit Makhachkala independently. Take a stroll along the avenue of Rasul Gamzatov, visit the Center of Ethnical Culture or local bazaar. One of the best city restaurants is "Syrovarnya" by Arkady Novikov or you may opt for less expensive local national cuisine.

Day Eight Saturday: Free morning and transfer to airport

Check-out time is 12:00. Transfer to airport of Makhachkala.
